Meet the Team

 

James Bingham - aka "Bing"
(Race Director and Founder of Ring O’ Fire)

 

James’ early years were spent growing up in Rhosneigr, a popular seaside village on the south west coast of Anglesey. The strongest runners still in the game on day three will travel across Rhosneigr’s windswept beaches on their final push to the finish line at Holyhead.


Although James has since moved away from Anglesey, he is a frequent visitor and loves nothing more than coming home to run the coastal path or climb a nearby peak in Snowdonia.


While James’ background is mountaineering, running soon became the focus of his attention. Marathons led to ultra distances, including the Cotswold Ultra 100, followed by more arduous challenges, culminating in his completion of the 26th Marathon des Sables. Indeed it was during those tough days in the desert sands that the idea of setting up an ultra marathon around the coast of Anglesey was born.


Over the past 10 years James has taken part or led expeditions to some of World’s highest peaks, including successful ascents of Mt Everest and many other mountains. James hopes the skills he’s developed leading teams to remote corners of the World, such as Alaska and even Afghanistan, will prove invaluable when it comes to organising this début ultra marathon event.


James and the team are focused on putting together an ultra marathon that will compete with even then most established events.

Quentin Brooksbank - aka "Q"
(Race Director)


Quentin also grew up on the Island, in Holyhead, on Anglesey's West Coast. He has a huge passion for the beauty and wilder side of the Anglesey coastline and has great enthusiasm for long distance running, mountain biking, windsurfing and mountaineering in the remote regions of the World.


Running the more secluded 'hilly' Chiltern Marathon and the busy London Marathon spurned Quentin’s interest in organising this tough ultra marathon event and more importantly to give something exciting back to his home Island.

 

Working in the heart of London's Marine Insurance market maintains the pace of life that drives a huge thirst for adventure and a good long muddy run!

Richard Ford - no aka
(Graphics, Website and all round Enthusiast)

I spent most of my youth in a swimming pool pounding up and down day and night. This love of the water turned to windsurfing, surfing and pretty much anything on the water. I met Q through windsurfing at Uni and now we often hook up for a down hill mountain bike session in South Wales.

 

After graduating from Uni in Accountancy I fast decided that a working life as an accountant was not for me. Luckily for me I was working for a design agency at the time and I took the opportunity to learn a new skill that has now become my profession. I started my own design agency in Southampton and ran it for 5 years and now I enjoy the life of a Freelance Graphics Designer, designing for print and for web.
